The Wet Tropics is home to over 60% of Australia's butterfly species. The famous Ulysses butterfly with its electric blue wings is a common sight, along with Cairns Birdwings and many other beautiful species.

Beetles & Bugs

Ulysses Butterfly

The iconic electric blue Ulysses butterfly is one of the most recognisable symbols of tropical Queensland. These stunning butterflies are a common sight around the lodge.

Cairns Birdwing

Australia's largest butterfly, the Cairns Birdwing can have a wingspan of up to 16cm. The males display brilliant green and black colouring.

Hercules Moth

The world's largest moth by wing area can be found in our rainforest. These gentle giants are most active during the wet season.

Rhinoceros Beetle

These impressive beetles with their distinctive horns are a fascinating sight. Despite their intimidating appearance, they are harmless.
